Vista – The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

This is a Vista-bug that is caused because Vista takes a backup of your profile but doesnt recreate it. Probably prior to an update.

THE FIX!

1. Boot up in Safe Mode.

2. Open RegEdit

3. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows NT
CurrentVersion
ProfileList

You should now have a list of folders all starting with S-1-5- and then a
number.
There should be 2 entries that are the same but one will have .bak at the end. Example image below

repair.jpg

The one that’s got .bak at the endshould have a profile path of  C:USERS[username] and the one without should have the profile path of C:USERSTemp

You need to swap the .bak to the other profile. ie .bak should be on the entry with the profile path of C:USERStemp. Make sure the entry with profile path C:USERS[username] DOESNT have .bak on the end of it.
